Police Seek Surveillance Footage In Search For Missing Kayaker From Western Mass

Nearly a week after a western Massachusetts man disappeared at a lake near New York’s Capital Region, authorities are renewing calls for help from the public.

Hampden County resident Frederick Mayock, age 47, of Springfield, was last seen at around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Canadarago Lake, located about 52 miles west of Schenectady.

At the time, he was assembling a kayak near the boat launch, according to New York State Police.

Mayock’s kayak was later found unoccupied, along with several other belongings.

Authorities have since deployed multiple resources to aid in the search, including a State Police helicopter, drones, and an underwater recovery team, police said.

On Friday, Oct. 28, State Police issued an alert asking anyone who lives or has a business near Canadarago Lake or State Highway 28 to review their security footage for a white kayak (pictured above).
